Google and Social Media Inclusion
Posted in Search Engine Optimization, Social Media by Sean Van Guilder
Just as Bing has done with Facebook, Google is now incorporating Twitter shares within its SERPs. Early last month Google moved the URL from below the Description to appear between the Title and Description values. This move has freed up space in their SERPs to allow for social integration, expanded Site Links and potentially more options as they expand their Google+ offering.
If your site has not already done so, now would be a good time to review your social marketing strategy moving forward as it pertains to the use of Twitter, Facebook as well as Google+. If your website has content offerings such as movies or autos, now would also be a good time to look at incorporating a review component that use Rich Snippets. Check out http://www.schema.org for more information on Rich Snippets.
Google has begun making changes to how they serve up their local theaters and “now playing” displays for movies. This could be a matter of time before they begin incorporating social media shares into these review components.
